Since April 2021 we have provided over £28 million in additional funding to turn your great ideas into reality. We’re excited to announce the next round of funding opportunities. These opportunities are open to staff across all hospitals. Funding Opportunities: Research: Pre-Application Support Funding Application Window (Stage 1): 1 July - 31 August 2026 Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Leeds Hospitals Charity are offering up to £39,500 (up to £33,000 for Ophthalmology) to support healthcare professionals working in Stroke, MND, Cancer, Ophthalmology, or Radiotherapy to develop competitive academic fellowship applications. Funding can support protected research time, training, patient and public involvement activities, and academic supervision. Open to all registered professions with an LTHT substantive post, honorary contract, or on clinical rotation. Full details: Research: Pre-Application Support Funding Research: Improving End-of-Life Care Application Window: 14 July – 28 September 2026 Leeds Hospitals Charity is offering grants of £10,001 – £25,000 for research to improve palliative and end-of-life care and hospital discharge for patients with serious life-limiting illnesses at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Funding is available for feasibility studies, pilot projects, and innovative approaches with clear potential to benefit patients within the next five years. Full details: Research: Improving End-of-Life Care Research Funding: Building Excellence in Kidney Research in Leeds Application window: 14 July – 28 September 2026 Leeds Hospitals Charity and Kidney Research Yorkshire are working together to fund research that improves the lives of people living with kidney disease and strengthens Leeds’ position as a centre of excellence in kidney research. Funding is available through four streams: Research Project Grants (£20,000–£100,000), Protected Time Awards (up to £40,000), Seed Funding (up to £10,000) and post-doctoral funding up to £100,000. Applications are encouraged across all areas of kidney health, including chronic kidney disease, transplantation, health inequalities, digital and AI approaches, and patient experience for both adult and paediatric services. Open to LTHT staff, University of Leeds staff with honorary contracts, and other researchers working with Leeds patients. Full details: Research Funding: Building Excellence in Kidney Research in Leeds Moments that Matter Application Window: Deadlines run monthly from 4 May 2026 to 24 February 2027, with panels held two weeks later The Moments That Matter 2026/27 funding call is open to support small, meaningful projects between £75 and £2,500. Projects should aim improve someone’s experience of care or work by creating moments of comfort, dignity, calm, connection or joy. We’re looking for simple but powerful ideas that make a noticeable difference to patients, families or staff, and can be delivered quickly, such as comfort packs, toys, sensory items, or resources that support compassionate, person-centred care. Practical items that reduce stress or enhance dignity, like spare clothing, wigs or specialist comfort equipment, are also strongly encouraged. Projects must go above and beyond standard NHS provision and be the kind of human impact stories we’d proudly share with donors. Full details: Moments that Matter Bringing families together: support, connection and hope for rare diseases Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Becky Pritchard, Leeds Hospitals Charity funded a Family Educational Support Day in Leeds with the purpose of bringing families together, providing trusted clinical insight, and building a lasting sense of community across Yorkshire. The day was carefully designed to support both emotional wellbeing and practical understanding. After the initial welcome, families split into tailored sessions. Children took part in creative, inclusive activities, from crafting to games, adapted to suit different ages, energy levels and physical needs, while parents and carers joined expert-led sessions. “The event clearly created a lot of smiles and positive connections. It helped connect the families who attended, seemingly building a stronger sense of belonging.” Q1 Round Up: In April 2026, we launched our Moments that Matter funding opportunity and following our first 3 panels we have approve 15 applications. In addition to the open funding opportunities, we support projects through other means like specific donations, strategic funding and via our Linked Charities. These projects continue to make a difference to patients, their families and staff across Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Staff Fundraising: Focus Groups At Leeds Hospitals Charity we are working on improving our guidance, support and communication for LTHT staff who would like to apply to fundraise for something specific on their ward or department. To help inform and shape our plans we would like to hear from you. We are running two focus groups at our charity offices at the LGI: Thursday 30th July 8:30-10:00 Monday 3rd August 16:30-18:00 You may want to attend if you are a member of LTHT staff who have fundraised for us in the past or are interested in fundraising for some specific in your area. Please share this invitation with any colleagues who you think might be interested in participating.Refreshments will be provided for both sessions. We have space for up to 10 participants per session, and if there's enough interest, we'll explore opportunities to run additional focus groups.
